Policing the Power of Identity
The power of digital identity is enormous.
People move in and out of information technology systems at the speed of light accessing information
and taking action to drive their business forward. As we continuously streamline our ability to interact
with information, it's more important than ever to put effective policing mechanisms in place. We need to
be certain that controls are in place, people aren't abusing their rights or exposing sensitive information
and that people are granted appropriate permissions to network resources.
NetVision makes Policing the Power of Identity a reality with simple and effective tools for identity audit.
Digital identities derive their power from three core components:
Controls,
Behavior and
Power.
Controls represent the security mechanisms that grant or deny access to resources
such as files, applications and data. These could be file system Access Control Lists or
application code that relies on directory group memberships to determine access rights.
Behavior represents what users actually choose to do in the environment.
Whereas policy may restrict certain behaviors, policies alone sometimes don't or can't require controls
to enforce that restriction. Some users, therefore, are technically able to act in violation of policy
and their behavior becomes an important component of their empowerment.
Power represents the rights and privileges that have been granted to an account. This
power can be applied through group memberships, account attributes, Access Control Lists or via
other mechanisms.
Identity Audit
A successful audit of the Power of Identity must cover all three components.
It must show that the right security mechanisms are in place (Controls),
that people are acting in accordance with policy (Behavior)
and that appropriate rights and privileges have been granted (Power).
NetVision enables Policing the Power of Identity
providing state-based auditing and real-time monitoring of security controls, user behavior and identity power.
